The iconic Hip-Hip legend, Snoop Dogg, has just added another major move to his storied career.
According to a press release, ‘Uncle Snoop’ has just accepted an executive role with the most iconic Hip-Hop record label, Def Jam. Snoop has been appointed as the new Executive Creative and Strategic Consultant, with a main area of focus on A&R (artists and repertoire) and creative development.
“They did all types of s--t I wanted to be a part of - and then Death Row happened,” Snoop explained. “So, I didn’t get a chance to be on Def Jam, but I always had a dream to be on Def Jam and to be in the place where Hip-Hip originated.”
“So when I got the opportunity, my main focus on Def Jam Records was to go and help the artists, give them love, give them wisdom, guidance and understanding, and teach them some tricks I learned in the game; to diversity their portfolio, to not just be rappers, to not just be artists but to be superstars, superheroes, so to speak.”
After being co-founded by Russel Simmons and Rick Rubin, Def Jam became a Hip-Hop staple in the 1980’s, launching the careers of Hip-Hop pioneers, such as LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Slick Rick, and Public Enemy. The label lost some of it’s steam in the early 90’s, however they rebounded strong and over the next few decades, and up to today, have returned to it’s Hip-Hop dominance.
