The Nas/21 Savage debate is just a perfect illustration of the Genre of HipHop growing. Rapper’s careers used to be over by 24, a decade later rapper’s careers where done by 30. Now in 2022 we have rappers in their 40’s and even their 50’s winning Grammys, selling out arenas, and continuing building their legacies.
Truth is Nas has fans as young as 17 although mostly outliers. 21 Savage has fans as old as 50 although mostly outliers. And that’s what’s dope about where we find ourselves in HipHop. Because that wouldn’t have happened at any other time in the Genre. Neither artist is irrelevant (as 21’s own peers on Clubhouse even reminded him they listen to Nas). Both just cater to a different demographic. I’m happy our genre has finally made it to This place. They thought rap was a fad and would be over in 2-3 years. Here it is approaching 50 years old and stronger than ever. #LongLiveHipHop
